Yesterday’s launch of HELLDIVERS II was not without its problems, particularly for the PC version. Its unexpected success on Steam, combined with a rough anti-cheat security system, led to many players encountering numerous errors that hindered normal gameplay. The developers quickly addressed the most pressing issues, and after two updates, HELLDIVERS II is now running almost perfectly and is quite playable, even on the Steam Deck.
How does HELLDIVERS II perform on the Steam Deck?
As of writing this message, there are no longer any issues with launching HELLDIVERS 2 on the Steam Deck, allowing players to dive into the game immediately after installation. The title is known for its expansive battlefields and impressive visual presentation, which naturally results in fairly high hardware requirements. Fortunately, the game is well-optimized, and even on the Steam Deck, it offers an enjoyable experience at basic settings with a stable 30 frames per second. I’ve played several rounds so far, and the fluidity at this level is consistently maintained, with controls being very responsive despite the obvious limitations.
Best optimized graphics settings for HELLDIVERS 2 on the Steam Deck
- Motion blur: Optional (I recommend a minimum of 50% for 30FPS gameplay)
- Depth of field: Optional
- Bloom effect: Yes
- Sharpness: 0.75
- Texture quality: High
- Object detail quality: Medium
- Render distance: Low
- Shadow quality: Lowest
- Particle quality: Lowest
- Reflection quality: Lowest
- Space quality: Low
- Ambient occlusion: On
- Vegetation and rubble density: Medium
- Terrain quality: Medium
- Volumetric fog quality: Lowest
- Volumetric cloud quality: Lowest
- Lighting quality: Low
- Antialiasing: On.
By default, the Screen tab includes rendering scaling settings, set to Ultra Quality – I advise against changing this setting as it significantly affects image sharpness. Unfortunately, even with the most drastic visual downgrades, reaching 40 FPS is unattainable due to CPU limitations
HELLDIVERS II features cloud save functionality and controller support, though some text may be relatively small – which shouldn’t be a major issue in a game focused on dynamic action. The multiplayer mode now works flawlessly, even on SteamOS.

The game shifts from a traditional top-down view to a third-person perspective, enhancing immersion, improving graphics and facilitating a more direct engagement with the battlefield.
HELLDIVERS II focuses on cooperative gameplay, allowing players to join forces on PC and PlayStation 5, thanks to crossplay support.
